What is a metabolic analysis?
Calorie calculators and general formulas can only estimate your energy requirements based on factors such as age, weight, gender and activity level estimate.
A metabolic analysis takes a different approach: it assesses your current energy expenditure based on the gases in your breath.
At Ultimate Personal Training, we use the uVida DYNOSTICS System. Whilst you sit relaxed, you wear a breathing mask. The system analyses your breath and provides information on how your body produces energy whilst at rest.
This gives us a personalised data set, rather than basing your diet solely on general averages.
Would you also like to know how your muscle mass and body fat are distributed? Then supplement the measurement with our Body composition analysis in Zurich using the InBody 770.
Why measure your metabolism rather than just calculating it?
Two people of similar age, weight and activity level do not necessarily have the same energy requirements.
Muscle mass, fitness level, diet, daily routine and other individual factors influence energy expenditure.
A standard calculation formula can therefore be a useful starting point – but it remains an estimate.
With the Metabolic testing in Zurich We receive additional personalised data on how your body is currently using energy. We can then incorporate this information into your nutrition and training plans.

Who would benefit from a metabolic analysis?
This analysis is particularly useful if you no longer want to rely solely on gut feeling, but instead wish to base your diet and training on personalised data.
You want to lose weight
If you want to reduce your body fat, it’s helpful to know what your actual energy requirements are and how your body uses energy at rest.
You want to build muscle
Energy intake also plays a crucial role in building muscle. Your metabolic data helps you tailor your diet and training more effectively to your goal.
Your progress has stalled
Do you train regularly and watch what you eat, yet see little change? An analysis can provide further insights, which we can use to review your current strategy.
You want to optimise your diet
Metabolic analysis is also suitable for people who wish to maintain their current weight and better tailor their diet to their actual energy requirements.
Here’s how your metabolic analysis in Zurich works
1. Brief preliminary discussion
We’ll discuss your goal, your current situation and any relevant factors relating to exercise, diet and your daily routine.
2. uVida breathing gas analysis
The actual measurement takes place whilst you are at rest. You sit in a relaxed position and breathe through a breathing mask, whilst your breath gases are continuously analysed.
3. Personal assessment
After the test, we’ll explain your results to you in plain language. Among other things, you’ll find out what your basal metabolic rate is and how your body currently uses fat and carbohydrates as energy sources.
4. Tips for your everyday life
Based on your results, we’ll identify specific areas to focus on in terms of nutrition, calorie intake and – depending on your goal – your training.
Total duration of the appointment: approx. 30 minutes
How can a metabolic analysis help you achieve your personal goal?
Fat loss: Planning your calorie deficit more effectively
To reduce body fat, a negative energy balance is required over the long term. However, it is crucial to set the deficit at a level that suits your body, your daily routine and your training.
The metabolic analysis provides us with a more personalised starting point for your nutrition plan and helps to minimise unnecessary guesswork when it comes to your calorie requirements.
Muscle building: Enough energy to make progress
To build muscle, your body needs not only targeted strength training but also sufficient protein, energy and recovery.
If we have a better understanding of your energy requirements, we can tailor your diet more effectively to build muscle and avoid your calorie intake being unnecessarily high or low in relation to your needs.
At Ultimate, data is the starting point – not the end product
A metabolic analysis on its own won’t change your body.
The key point is that, what you do with the results.
That is why, at Ultimate, we combine state-of-the-art diagnostics with training, nutrition and regular progress monitoring.
1. Trade fairs
We’ll assess your individual starting point.
2. Understanding
We’ll explain your metrics to you and show you which ones are relevant to your goal.
3. Implementation
The results will be incorporated into your diet and training plan.
4. Check
If necessary, we will repeat the analyses and compare the results with your original baseline.
Combining metabolic analysis and body composition analysis
Your metabolism shows us, how your body uses energy.
The InBody 770 body analysis, on the other hand, shows us that, what your body is made of – for example, muscle mass, body fat and their distribution.
Combining both analyses therefore provides a much more comprehensive picture of your current situation.
